Look at the tax bill, not just the price
Taxes change your monthly payment.
Two homes can have the same price and very different monthly payments. One big reason: property taxes.
In Monroe County, property taxes can be very different from one town or school district to the next. Your taxes are usually built into your monthly mortgage payment, so a higher tax bill means a higher payment every month, for as long as you own the home.
When you look at a listing, find the yearly property taxes and divide by 12. Add that to the mortgage payment you're estimating. That's a more honest picture of what the home will cost you each month.
