Have a Housing Choice Voucher? Ask about homeownership
Some programs can help you buy.
If you have a Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), here's something many families never hear: some housing authorities offer a homeownership option that can help voucher holders buy a home.
Not every housing authority offers it, and each one has its own rules, like steps to complete, income and work requirements, and homebuyer education. Programs that help you build savings while you work toward your goals may also be available.
Call your housing authority and ask, "Do you offer a homeownership option for voucher holders, and what are the steps?" Write down the name of the person you talk to.
General education only, not legal, tax or lending advice. Program rules vary; ask your lender, attorney or program office about your situation.
